Tommy는 studio w/coworkers의 공동 설립자이자 아트 디렉터 (Art Direction)를 맡고 있으며 10년 가까이 사진가로 활동하고 있습니다. 이번 베르소 아카이브에 소개되는 그의 작품은 2019년 3개월간 미국에 머무르며 촬영한 사진입니다.

시간과 공간 안에 온전히 머무르며 풍경을 바라본 작가의 순수한 마음과 따뜻한 시선은 닿을 수 없는 사진 너머의 공간을 상상할 수 있는 틈을 주는 듯 합니다. 이를테면 온도, 바람의 방향, 공기의 냄새 같은 것들입니다. 인터뷰 당시 보여 준 비하인드 사진에는 인물보다 돌, 나무 등과 같은 자연의 요소가 많았습니다. 그에게 자연, 특히 ‘나무’는 본래 사물의 역할이나 단순히 보는 것 이상의 가치 있는 존재라고 합니다. 작가는 언젠가 ’나무’를 주제로 한 전시를 여는 것이 목표라고 전했습니다.

Tommy has been a photographer for nearly 10 years now, as he is the co-founder and the art director of Studio w/coworkers. The piece introduced in this VERSO Archive is the photo he has taken when he stayed in the United States for 3months back in 2019.

The photographer's adolescent perspective and cordial approach completely emerged in the landscape allows the ambience across the photo to be almost tangible. These include things like the temperature, the flow of the wind, and the scent of the atmosphere. The behind cuts shown in the interview revealed more natural elements like stones and trees than people photo. He expressed that nature, especially trees, hold a meaning beyond the value of the mere function of the visual image itself. The photographer wishes to organize an exhibition on trees on day.

"느리게 마음을 비우고 걷다 보면 더 많은 것들이 보인다. 자연 앞에 서서 내가 아는 만큼, 보고 싶은 만큼 보게 될 때 그때가 가장 행복하다. 세상엔 아름다운 것들이 너무나도 많다. 후회할 일도 후회할 것도 없다. 내가 찾은 이 모든 순간들이 경이로운 삶이다."

"A lot more of life is visible when you move steadily with an empty mind. I am most satisfied when I encounter nature to conceive as much as I am aware of.
